Setting up LaTeX on Windows
This is much easier under Linux but a significant (most?) number of our members
use Windows and so here are some guidelines and a little help on getting everything
setup on Windows.
Windows
Our basic setup consists of the following programs (install them in the order they are listed to avoid
any confusion):
If you are in Cape Town, South Africa contact Spencer on the admin list about picking up a CD with
the software on it from the Physics Dept. at UCT. The download time in SA for MikTex is extremely long!
Getting Up and Running
There is a GREAT tutorial on how to set everything up
here. I recommend
following the instructions in the tutorial and also reading
this.
Once you have MikTex etc. setup you can proceed to installing the additional PSTricks packages listed on
the
PSTricks page.
NB: Warning
We have found that making a DVI file and viewing it on Windows results in
incorrectly rendered drawings (all rput commands don't work) but running dvi2ps/pdf
and viewing the resulting documents will produce figures which are correct.
