Etiquette
Please remember that a virtual collaboration like this attracts a
diverse set of people. Nationalities, religions, motivation and attitudes
can differ significantly.
No matter who you are, you are not this organisation. You must respect other members and
collaborate in an appropriate fashion.
We need your help, but to achieve anything we
must work towards a common goal.
Mailing Lists
- Assume the best about people whenever possible. We are here to collaborate and write good books to make a difference.
- Be polite.
People can't see you or know for sure your mood. Irony isn't always obvious, and blunt, raw text can easily appear rude.
- Be prepared to apologize.
In animated discussions, we often say things we later wish we hadn't. Say so.
- Be prepared to accept an apology politely, and without rubbing it in.
- Give praise when due. Everybody likes to feel appreciated.
- Flame wars are cute, but not on our lists and will NOT be tolerated AT ALL. A mature attitude
embracing diversity is worthy of much more respect than intolerant bias.
General
- Make others feel welcome
- Create and continue a friendly environment
- Turn the other cheek
- Give praise, especially to those you don't know
- Forgive
(Yes, it is a modified list from wikipedia, but thats ok.)
