1.3 Predefined Calculations

MicroBenchmark samples the elapsed time and iterations performed by the test function at certain intervals. Certain iterations and samples are discarded from the final statistical values calculated from the data collected, such as the warm up iterations.

From these samples the following values are calculated:

• Iteration time

  The time of each iteration, as common statistical values:

  • μ -> Mean time per iteration.
  • σ² -> Variance of the iteration time.
  • σ -> Standard deviation of the iteration time.
• Iterations per sample

  The iterations performed on each sample, as the common statistical values:

  • μ -> Mean iterations per sample.
  • σ² -> Variance of the iterations per sample.
  • σ -> Standard deviation of iterations per sample.
• Sample time

  The time of each sample.

  • μ -> Mean sample time.
  • σ² -> Variance of the sample time.
  • σ -> Standard deviation of sample time.

MicroBenchmark also measures the total time elapsed on the test case execution and the total number of iterations performed. The following sections describe the chronometers and timers predefined by the library.
