Wishlist of applications
Here is a list of application that are perceived as interesting and useful in a GNUstep environment and thus interesting for GAP or enhacements to existing GNUstep applications. They are not in importance order or ceration order.
Graphical Apps
- XV style image tool (a viewer, slideshow presenter (with image deletion during presentation) supporting various formats in/out, directory browsing with previews ("visual schnauzer")). This is becoming LaternaMagica
- a graphic raster app oriented app aimed at drawing (pencil, watercolors, airbrush, effects)
- a more picture/photo oriented graphical app interated with the former
- a a vector based graphical application (with SVG support, Xfig, postscript) Graphos is working in this direction
Developer Apps
- graphical programming system (UML-ish)
- A decent, working, and more or less bugfree release of ProjectCenter. Among what is wanted:
- more flexibility
- a better internal editor
- a web-editor which could have these features:
- semi-realtime display in a separate window of the content (possibly with a choosen engine, like WebCore, Gecko or dillo
- syntax highlighting
- auto-indentint and page reformatting (like old OmniWeb internal editor)
- tag insertion and CSS creation assistant
Network Apps
- an instant messenger in the style of Fire! (we could reuse it mostly) with a clear interface and no IRC. Protocols most wanted: Yahoo, ICQ, MSN, Jabber, possibly AIM too.
System tools
- window manager based on GNUstep
- System administration software like: NFSConfig.app. ideas:
- plug-ins and an abstraction layer to accomodate various Operating Systems.
- user managment
- inetd managment
- daemon managment
- disk usages (graphic display) with possibly a disk cleaning tool
- ... (and similar stuff)
Desktop and Utilites
- dictionary tool
- possibly based on wictionary (wikipedia dictionary) access
- with offline mode and repository
- offering a system-wide dictionary service
- An office suite, consiting of:
- word processor
- spreadsheet
- presentation tool
