The maps can be filled with various features randomly according to adjustable probabilities. It is also possible to construct specific test cases for the agents by editing the world manually and don't apply any randomization. It is even possible to set exacly which features of each tile that should be determined randomly.
A world where the map has undetermined (random) elements is actually a world template, also called a class of worlds. An actual world (without random elements) can be created from a template (class) by performing determination. This is usually done completely at one occation (for example when starting a simulation). But it can also be done just in time during the simulation, as the information about the world is gathered by the agent.
